Zohara, Queen of Silk

After 15 years as a graphic designer in her native Israel, Shenkman moved to the United States in 1996 where she began studying the ancient European technique of silk painting and marbling. She chose silk because, "It's a superior fiber . . . Silk responds to colors when you apply dye; it's incredible! It's so alive . . . no other fabric in the world has (its) qualities . . . The results on silk are 100% better." The idea to use her scarves for color healing came to her as she was in the midst of making dozens of red and yellow scarves and became inspired by how physically affected she was by the colors. She set out to create a product that would help people learn and understand the benefits of healing with color.
